Dr. Jeffrey Masson Explores Animal Emotions and Why Elephants Don't Weep
San Francisco, California (PRWeb) February 15, 2007 -- New York Times best-selling author of When Elephants Weep: Emotional Lives of Animals, Jeffrey Masson, Ph.D., talks in-depth with Internet radio host Ilene Dillon on Full Power Living (worldtalkradio dot com) Thursday, March 1 at 9 a.m. PT, discussing how animals show emotions and what animal emotions can teach us about being more powerfully human.
Animals don't hate! They don't bear grudges! They don't hold onto jealousy! For them, emotion operates as is intended: it arises inside, gets expressed and then is released. Within minutes, it is impossible to tell the emotion was present. It's over. The emotion has served its purpose and is immediately released. Since emotions held inside tend to grow, this model is very instructive for humans, who tend to hold onto emotions, bear grudges and allow emotions to build, such as anger into hate. This is part of the discussion Masson has with Dillon (a psychotherapist) on Full Power Living. Opening ourselves to the purity of emotion in animals can help us feel, utilize and release our own emotions more easily, leading us to healthier, less stressful lives.
Jeffrey Masson, Ph.D., is leading the world to a deeper understanding of emotions in animals, an area of inquiry that is receiving much more scientific and psychological attention in recent years. Author of The Nine Emotional Lives of Cats, When Elephants Weep, Raising the Peaceable Kingdom, The Cat Who Came in From the Cold, The Pig Who Sang to the Moon and Dogs Never Lie About Love (to name only a few!), Masson has led the world to an understanding of the purity, intensity and importance of emotions in the lives of all types of animals. Since we are "human animals," this exploration is vitally important to our health and understanding. On this program, he talks about joy, compassion, anger, a love of beauty and reconciliation, as demonstrated by different species of animals, such as apes, elephants, chickens, dogs and cats.
Full Power Living is awakening the world to the power and importance of human emotions. Aired weekly on World Talk Radio at 9 a.m. PT on Thursdays, the show explores emotion in all areas of life, including business, parenting, personal growth, medicine, aging, earth changes and new dimensions of living. Past guests have included world-renowned author and teacher Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen, Susan Page (If I'm So Wonderful, Why Am I Still Single), Dr. Candace Pert (Molecules of Emotion; What the Bleep Do We Know), Dr. Kenneth Mattox (co-head of Katrina Medical Clinic in the Houston Astrodome), Dennis Bakke (Joy at Work) and Dr. Janelle Barlow (President, TMI International, U.S.).
